What our work achieves

THE RAIN WORKERS initiate change in societies. Step by step, trained RAIN WORKERS provide highly sensitive, fact-based knowledge about sexual and reproductive health (SRGR), human rights, family planning and contraception, sexually transmitted diseases, etc. in local languages and with knowledge of existing myths and narratives. In this way, they touch on the most personal and intimate areas of people's lives.

Behavioural changes are measurable

Changes in a society are gradual and take time. In order to measure the impact of our actions, we have been conducting impact studies with selected NGO partners since 2022. Examples include an impact measurement in Kenya, Ethiopia and Tanzania and a comprehensive study from Lugawara in Tanzania on the research question ‘To what extent can education about family planning and sexual health influence the family?’.

We present the measurement results of our educational work using the Phineo impact scale:

Our achievements

Partnership, family, school, health

8 out of 10 people understand the connection between lack of family planning, limited resources and poverty and would like to do something about it.

85% of the men reached and 89% of the women see a direct benefit in family planning.

90% of men understand the female cycle and couples begin to talk about family planning and decide together on a type of contraception.

60% of the target groups ultimately use modern contraceptive methods.

80% of women in partnerships report an improvement in life for the whole family.

93% of parents understand children's rights and needs. They now also want to fulfill their children's special wishes. As a result, child marriage and genital mutilation are rejected because people recognise the rights of their children.

90% of teachers have a strong knowledge of family planning and sexual health, which puts them in a better position to care for their students.

90% fewer teenage pregnancies: In the slums of Nairobi, teenage pregnancies in schools have fallen by 90% as a result of pupils, teachers and parents receiving counselling over a long period of time.

30% of the people decide to undergo HIV/AIDS testing after RAIN WORKER interventions.

Girls Empowerment & Safe Camps

With our Girl Empowerment Programme, which we run together with our partner ZINDUKA and whose highlights are the so-called Safe Camps to protect girls from female genital mutilation (FGM), we have been able to measure the following successes:

80% of the girls perform better at school after the camps and plan to enter a profession.

Self-esteem and prospects improve for 90% of girls.

We have been able to save 2,000 girls from genital mutilation in the long term, and 400 more are saved every year.
